Code of Conduct

Adopted by membership May 2025

As a member of the Noah Worcester Dermatological Society, I commit to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity. I recognize that my actions reflect not only on myself, but also on the Society and the greater dermatologic community.

Professionalism and Ethics

  • I will conduct myself with honesty, integrity, and fairness in all professional activities.

  • I will adhere to the ethical principles outlined by the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Medical Association.

  • I will maintain appropriate boundaries and avoid any behavior that could be construed as harassment, discrimination, or exploitation.

Respect and Collegiality

  • I will treat colleagues, patients, staff, and all members of the Society with dignity and respect.

  • I will foster an inclusive and supportive environment in all Society interactions and events.

Commitment to Learning and Science

  • I will contribute to the advancement of dermatology through scientific exchange and ongoing education.

  • I will share knowledge and expertise in a spirit of collaboration, always giving proper credit for the work of others.

Patient-Centered Care

  • I will prioritize the well-being of my patients and respect their autonomy, dignity, and privacy.

  • I will strive to provide competent, compassionate, and evidence-based care.

Responsibility to the Society

  • I will support the mission and values of the Noah Worcester Dermatological Society.

  • I will represent the Society positively and accurately in public and professional forums.

  • I will report any conduct that may compromise the integrity or values of the Society.

Guidelines for Addressing Code of Conduct Violations

The Noah Worcester Dermatological Society is committed to ensuring a safe and respectful environment at all events. Reports of behavior that may violate the Event Code of Conduct will be taken seriously and addressed promptly, fairly, and confidentially.

If a violation is observed or reported:

Initial Response

The Board President will speak privately with the individual(s) involved to understand the situation.

Assessment

The Executive Committee will assess the concern, considering the severity of the behavior, its impact on others, and whether it violates the Society’s values and expectations.

Action

Based on the assessment, the Society may take one or more of the following actions:

  • A verbal warning

  • Removal from a session or activity

  • Revocation of event access without refund

  • Referral to the Society’s Board of Trustees for further review

Follow-Up

When appropriate, the Society may follow up with impacted individuals and share the outcome of any action taken (while maintaining confidentiality).

Appeal

Actions of the Executive Committee or the Board of Trustees may be appealed in writing within 30 days of notification.

All participants are encouraged to report concerns as soon as possible to a Board Trustee or the Executive Director. Reports will be handled discreetly and respectfully.
